More About Historical And Cultural Experiences

Whether you are looking for a First Nation's cultural experience or the culture of later people inhabiting the Island, there are many things to see and experience.

CRAIGDARROCH CASTLE. Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria is a castle built in 1890 for the Dunsmuirs. It features a national historic museum as well as self guided tours of the castle that take about an hour.

EMILY CARR HOUSE. The Emily Carr House in Victoria is the house where world famous artist Emily Carr resided. See how she lived and some of her own possessions. It now features a gallery of Canadian artists as well as a gift shop.

ROYAL BC MUSEUM. The Royal B.C. Museum is located in Victoria. Here you can tour and view the human and natural history of BC including the history of First Nations as well as the history of the industrial society in B.C.

QUW'UTSUN' CULTURAL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE. The Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre in Duncan is operated by the Cowichan Tribe. It features native arts and crafts, tours, demonstrations, totem pole carving, and salmon barbques. As well you can partake in authentic native cuisine at the Riverwalk Cafe.

MARITIME MUSEUM OF BC. The Maritime Museum of B.C. is located in Victoria. Come and view the rich maritime history of our province.

PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS. The Parliament Buildings of B.C. are located at the inner harbour of Victoria. Tours are available during the summer months.

PETROGLYPHS. Petroglyphs, or rock art carvings and paintings abound on Vancouver Island. A unique opportunity to connect with past native cultures, there are many places one can explore this ancient art form.

CHINATOWN. Chinatown, Victoria is the oldest in Canada and 2 oldest only to San Francisco's Chinatown in North America
